Job Summary

American Timber and Steel is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Metal Fabricator / CNC Machinery Operator to join our fabrication team. This position is primarily responsible for operating CNC fabrication equipment, including a CNC plasma table, CNC bandsaw, and CNC press brake, to produce high-quality steel components according to production drawings and specifications. The ideal candidate will have experience working in a metal fabrication environment, possess strong mechanical aptitude, and maintain a commitment to safety and quality.  Welding experience is preferred but not required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain CNC plasma cutting equipment to accurately process steel materials.
  • Operate CNC bandsaw equipment to cut structural steel and other metal products according to specifications.
  • Set up and operate CNC press brake equipment for forming and bending metal components.
  • Read and interpret fabrication drawings, shop prints, work orders, and production schedules.
  • Measure and inspect finished parts to ensure compliance with quality standards and tolerances.
  • Load, unload, and move materials safely using forklifts and other material handling equipment.
  • Perform routine machine maintenance and keep equipment in good working condition.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Collaborate with production and quality teams to meet deadlines and customer requirements.
  • Assist with general fabrication duties as needed.
Qualifications
Required
  • Ability to read tape measures, calipers, and other measuring instruments accurately.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and fabrication drawings.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in an industrial environment.
Preferred
  • Experience operating CNC plasma tables, CNC bandsaws, and CNC press brakes.
  • Welding experience (MIG, TIG).
  • Experience working with structural steel fabrication.
  • Forklift experience and ability to safely handle steel materials.
Physical Requirements
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting throughout the shift.
  • Ability to safely lift and move materials up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in varying shop temperatures and conditions.
  • Use of required personal protective equipment (PPE).
